Inspired by Little Traverse Lake.

This is the lake that the cottage was on, Little Traverse Lake. It’s a small, all-sports lake that’s easily missed if you’re driving on M-22 between Leland and Glen Arbor and it was home for those two magical summers. My friend’s father built the cottage himself along with his brother and friends. It was modest and cozy with cedar planked walls everywhere on the inside. Loads of framed photo collages of summers past lining the staircase. There was such a warmth to it. Most days, we had the lake to ourselves and we would usually take the boat out at some point and float in the middle of the lake or swim out to the floating raft that they put out in the water for the summers and just lay and work on our tans and swim and talk and laugh or enjoy a comfortable silence that best friends can share until it was time to go to work. Whenever I come up to the peninsula, I always stop to look over the lake. Sometimes I cry for the loss of my friend, but mostly, I just feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and joy for being so intimately connected to this beautiful place.

Oil and cold wax medium on Arches oil paper with beautiful deckled edges. Approximately 20.5”x16” overall paper size. Painted area on the paper is approximately 20”x15.5”. These paintings are not on panels. Each piece will be titled, signed and dated on the back.
